Paediatrics Department within Zadar Hospital has been donated a modern EEG device

Within the humanitarian project “Doing Good Every Day” we have – so far – collected nine and a half million HRK

Zadar, June 6, 2017 – PBZ Group granted to the General Hospital Zadar the amount of HRK 301,112 within the Programme “Monitoring Children Exposed to Neurological Risks” launched by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. The donated funds have enabled the purchase of a modern EEG device for the Paediatrics Department within the Zadar Hospital. This donation is a part of the Project “Doing Good Every Day”, by means of which we have collected more than nine and a half million HRK over the last nine years for the benefit of children and young people in the Republic of Croatia.

The project “Monitoring Children Exposed to Neurological Risks” as launched by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia in 2007. Children exposed to neurological risks are children whose mothers have had various complications in pregnancy, childbirth or children who have had complications just after birth, and this includes about 10% of the newborns, out of which 3% are the children exposed to high neurological risk. At the level of Croatia, it means that every year approximately four thousand children exposed to some neurological risk are born, i.e. about 1,000 children exposed to high neurological risk. In such children there is a risk of developing cerebral palsy, mental retardation, speech, motor, concentration and learning disorders, and timely diagnosis and habilitation can prevent the development of the disease.

The donated EEG device will be used by the Neuropediatric dispensary of the Paediatric Department within the Zadar Hospital, which deals with diagnosing neurological diseases and conditions such as perinatal brain damage, neurodevelopmental disorders, epilepsy and epileptic childhood syndrome etc. “Thanks to the donation of PBZ Group and the Project ”Monitoring Children Exposed to Neurological Risks“ launched by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia, after the fifteen years we have purchased a new EEG device that will improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of children exposed to neurological risks, as well as all the children that suffer from convulsions and epilepsy in our county. The donated EEG device contains a stationary EEG system with a video camera for the patients’ surveillance. It has the ability of long-lasting recording of brain function and polysomnography, as well as the separation of two cells for EEG reading and analysis. Early detection of developmental difficulties and inclusion in the habilitation treatment can prevent the development of the disease or at least we can achieve the greatest possible potential for a child exposed to neurological risk. Therefore, I sincerely thank PBZ Group for this valuable donation“, these are the words of prim. Sanja Delin, M.D. from the Paediatrics Department within the General Hospital Zadar.

The Zadar hospital intensively monitors the development of children exposed to neurological risks within the early intervention program. Out of a total of 15,501 children born in the last ten years in the Zadar County, the hospital included around 1,600 children exposed to neurological risks in the program of monitoring children exposed to neurological risks. Only last year, during which 1,556 children were born in the Zadar hospital, there were 155 children exposed to neurological risk, among whom 113 preterm newborns were isolated in extremely sensitive group. The importance of the new EEG device is also indicated by the fact that only about 3,300 children were screened in the neurological dispensaries of the Paediatrics Department last year, over 2,200 EEGs were made, and these include 500 children exposed to neurological risk.

“We are glad to be today in Zadar, in this General Hospital for the noble purpose of delivering a new EEG device that will enable better treatment of the youngest patients from the entire Zadar County. Responsible corporate conduct is a fundamental principle of Privredna banka Zagreb and the entire PBZ Group, which we have confirmed by our numerous donations and charity activities. One to be noted is our humanitarian project “Doing Good Every Day” and American Express Card with a Heart that we have created in order to provide continuous help to the children and young people all over the Republic of Croatia. It fills us with joy and pleasure that we have collected 9.5 million HRK through this project and so far have participated in 30 donations to hospitals and social care homes throughout Croatia, enabling them to buy various modern medical devices and equipment to improve health and social care for children and young people in Croatia“, these are the words of Mislav Blažić, CEO of PBZ Card.
