Grant to the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb Amounting to HRK 296,00 for the Equipment Procurement

Within the humanitarian project “Doing Good Every Day” PBZ Group has, so far, collected more than nine million Croatian Kuna

Zagreb, April 27th, 2017 – Within the programme “Monitoring Children Exposed to Neurological Risks”, PBZ Group granted the donation to the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb, amounting to HRK 296,00. The funds donated enabled the purchase of a modern ultrasound device, partition walls and the a precision dosing device for the infants exposed to the neurological risks for the Paediatric Clinic within the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb. The respective grant is a part of the project “Doing Good Every Day”, based on which PBZ Group has, so far, collected more than nine million Croatian Kuna intended for the welfare of the children and young people in the Republic of Croatia.

The project “Monitoring Children Exposed to Neurological Risks” was launched by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia in 2007. Children exposed to neurological risks are children whose mothers had various complications during pregnancy, childbirth or children who had complications immediately after birth, and this concerns app. 10% of the new-borns, out of which app. 3% of them are children exposed to high neurological risks. At the level of the Republic of Croatia, it means that potentially four thousand children exposed to neurological risks are born every year, that is, app. 1,000 children exposed to high neurological risks. In such children there is a risk of developing cerebral palsy, mental retardation, speech, motor, concentration and learning disorders and, therefore, timely diagnosis and habilitation can prevent the further development of the disease. Therefore, the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb utilised the funds granted, among other things, for the purchase of the most recent ultrasound device.

The Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb is the largest hospital institution in the Republic of Croatia, while the Paediatric Clinic is the first in this part of Europe to start with the implementation of the most advanced diagnostic devices. The Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Medicine Institute of the Paediatric Clinic annually takes care of 300 to 350 life-threatened new-borns from all parts of the Republic of Croatia. The Institute is a unique institution in the country that is able to provide the most essential diagnostic and treatment methods (haemodialysis, ECMO, all machine inhalation modalities etc.) 24/7. Annually, the Institute treats app. 150 pre-term new-borns, of whom 60 of them are born with a birth weight <1500 g (a quarter of the total number of children borne with RM <1500 g in the Republic of Croatia per year) and who are in most cases to be treated with nebulizers due to breathing difficulties. Other children are born with life-threatening inherited anomalies, new-borns with severe perinatal infections, early hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, metabolic diseases, etc.

“The Institute for Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Medicine of the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb, in collaboration with the Croatian Institute for Brain Research, has been participating – for a number of years – in a scientific project of early detection of perinatal brain lesions by magnetic resonance imaging in the most weakest neonates (<32 years of pregnancy, <1500 g of birth weight), with the aim of understanding the cause of the damage and finding new methods of treatment but also preventing the later motor and non-disturbance deficits. The grant of this device will be of great help and we shall use it precisely for this purpose”, said Prof. Jurica Vuković, PhD, Head of the Paediatric Clinic of the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb.

“The Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb puts its patients is in the centre of attention, especially the youngest ones; therefore, this grant provided by PBZ Group to the Paediatric Clinic enabled the best possible diagnosis and treatment of the smallest patients. We sincerely thank PBZ Group for a truly valuable and useful grant“, said prim.dr. Milivoj Novak, Assistant Director for Quality of Health Care and Supervision of the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb.
